The red panda is a medium-sized bear-like mammal with a thick, rusty to deep chestnut colored coat with blackish under parts. The head is round with pointed ears and a fox-like face. It has eye patches and broad, white cheek patches, and its pointed ears are white. The tail is long and bushy with broad, brown and ginger rings. The claws are sharp and partly retractable. The red panda is a good tree climber and spends most of its time in trees, when it is not foraging.
