Description: This medium-sized species of tortoise is found in tropical forests and open grasslands with warmer temperatures and plenty of rain.

Although they’re most active during the day, like most tortoises, red-footed tortoises can spend up to 50% of the day at rest. They’re a semi-social species, often seeking out shelter with other tortoises or peacefully grazing without territorial behavior.

Conservation Status: Not yet evaluated by the IUCN, although they are threatened by habitat loss and illegal pet trade.
