Length: 3 1/2 - 5 feet, including tail Weight: 9 – 17 pounds Life Span: Captive = 15-22 years Description: The Debrazza’s Monkey is an Old World monkey and a member of the Guenon family, one of the largest groups of primates in the world. Body is gray with black extremities and tail, white stripe on rump and thigh, noticeable facial pattern with white muzzle, long white beard, and orange crown. Male facial pattern is more pronounced and has blue scrotum. Adult color takes four years to develop. Freeze when alarmed by predators. Have cheek pouches that allow them to feed/forage rapidly, then chew and swallow their food later. Unlike some monkeys, they move around on all four feet. Communication is both verbal and visual (example: staring as a threat display). As with many primates, grooming is important in social behavior and communication.
Range/Habitat: Central Africa from Cameroon to Ethiopia & Kenya to Angola. They prefer to live in dense vegetation near a river, predominately in closed canopy areas.
Diet: Wild: fruit, leaves, insects.
Zoo: monkey chow, fruits, vegetables
